ARTIST NOTES: The layers of existence which light the sky

Like a mother watches her child, the sky watches the people of the earth. It sees us grow and change through the years, the many layers we develop though our skin seemingly thin. The sky too, develops layers, the beautiful and serene layers of colour it produces each evening at sunset and the stunning view as the sun rises on a new day. Our lives are lived with a kind of ignorance to the world around us, yet as we grow, the sky with its many layers is there, listening and observing contently for that day when we find ourselves in this busy world ready to breakout of the layers of society and conformity.

ARTIST BIO

Being brought up in Heidelberg, I have been surrounded by the arts, works of impressionism and realism as the famous painters of the Heidelberg arts school had once created before me. Having travelled far and wide as a young and independent woman and experiencing many things, I am now beginning to come into my own as I mould my love of the old and the new arts, sometimes creating pieces with a more contemporary feel, whilst staying true to my impressionist roots.

With my loving and supportive family and friends behind me, I began my journey 11 years ago attending tonal painting classes at Montsalvat (Eltham) under the watchful eye of Jenny Mitchel (then resident artist) the following year I joined a local art group (Thou Art Mum) to which my role as an artist quickly ascended into various roles such as secretary, Vice President and as an ongoing fellow member of the  committee organised multiple art exhibitions throughout the years.  During this time, I also became a member of The Victorian Artists Society in which I undertook workshop classes with Barbara McManus and the opportunity to submit my work in various group themed exhibitions.  In 2018 I decided to leave Thou Art Mum to broaden my experiences thus going back to my roots with The Heidelberg Arts Society.

During my everyday life, I will sometimes venture out and paint plein en air or alternatively with camera in hand observe and then capture a moment which inspires me to pick up a brush and paint the true beauty of the world around me. For me, inspiration can come from anywhere, whether it be on a family outing or just a walk in the park with my westie and partner in crime, Pablo.
