Artists’ Profile – Rosemary Morgan
With a lifetime of experience as a professional dancer, choreographer, musician and composer, Rosemary brings to her artworks a kinesthetic understanding of line, rhythm, movement, shape, flow and colour. Rosemary feels the stance of each animal and the line of every leaf as she brings her imagery to life. Every brushstroke is a movement in a complex dance.
Many of Rosie’s artworks are created in pastel and acrylic but she also enjoys the fine detail and linear style that she can achieve through the use of pen and wash. Her artworks depict flora and fauna and cultural scenes of people. A trait of Rosemary’s artworks is her ability to portray her subjects with a strong sense of purpose and personality.
With a fascination for observing animals, nature and people in their authentic environments, Rosemary travels regularly for her artwork. In 2010 she toured the Greek Islands under the tutelage ofRegina Hona, contributing to a collaborative exhibition of the group’s original works. In 2011 and 2012 she embarked upon photographic safaris in Africa which inspired a large body of animal portraiture
Rosemary has also travelled to Egypt, Japan, Turkey and Alaska. She continues to camp extensively around Australia’s national parks, capturing our rugged landscape and unique wildlife.
Ever keen to develop new techniques, Rosemary has enjoyed attending workshops by Maxine Wade, Barbara McManus, Pamela Pretty,Regina Hona and Lorraine Wigraft and is particularly inspired by the striking wildlife paintings of Steve Morvell.
