"Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time” -Thomas Merton
Hidden away in a folder, I stumbled upon sketches of my attempts at drawing portraits of still life, old family photos, replicated images of flawless and captivating models from magazines. After more than two decades away from art I found myself reminiscent of how I had once immersed myself into my peaceful haven since the age of 8. Somehow that folder got forgotten and left behind in my mind and in the basement of my parent’s home.
During the twilight of my thirties I left a long standing professional career to start a family. During this time I found peace and solace in my life with a strong desire to paint. A new chapter in life began. One immersed in the world of oil paint with it’s many facets to explore just like the complexity of one’s persona. It is through my paintings that I seek to capture the soul of the subject on canvas. |
