SIMONE NEAL
Whilst studying a Bachelor of Design in Textiles after leaving school I was exposed to intensive drawing. It was here that I first studied life drawing. I had wonderful teachers including Lewis Millar and Yvonne Audette. I was always fascinated with the human figure and I later started painting in oils. After a long period of painting still life studies my last five years has seen my focus shift to mainly portraiture. I believe to paint from the present creates an aura or atmosphere not otherwise attainable. I admire the work of Freud, Bonnard and Neel and continue to reference the wonderful book of Burne Hogarths Drawing the Human Head. I continue to search for the balance between expression and technical competence. |
