I am an amateur artist with no training. I started painting in Jan 2013. My paintings are acrylic, usually on A2, A3, A4 or A5 Canson canvas paper or watercolour paper. My interest is in landscapes, especially with the play of light and shadow. It seems to be the factor that makes for a painting to come alive or not. It's hard to define, so sometimes I am at a loss as to explain to myself why some of my paintings just don't 'work' and some do.
I am particularly interested in the Impressionists of the late 19th/early 20th century but this hasn't translated into doing my own impressionist paintings. With just a few attempts I've found it unexpectedly difficult, my only success has been in copying elements from famous impressionist paintings and producing a painting that attempts to imitate parts of the famous original. |
