ARTIST NOTES: 1 February 2014
“Cherry Blossom Lake (Sakura, Japan)”
When I first saw the photograph of the cherry blossom lake at Sakura, Japan the picture absorbed me entirely. The pink and red blossom, the grey sky, the reflections in the blue lake presented softness amongst the stillness. So much to perceive! All elements in the scene provided a feeling of calmness. The composition of the pier was simple yet alluring. Even the rope binding on the rails each side of the pier presented a sense of tranquillity – no complication with wood piercing metal attachments, but a rope tied diagonally held the rails securely. Too captivating for me to not paint the scene? I finished the painting in February 2014.
