Hi, I'm Jo Cunningham, a contemporary local artist residing mostly on the back beaches of Blairgowie, Mornington Peninsula. My works are vibrant, bright and bold with a sense of pop and playfulness about them.
I have been painting for over 15 years and my love of painting derives from the world of colour. Every moment of every day, we are surrounded by the world of beautiful colour whether a flower, the sky, the icing on that cupcake you are about to eat.... So this is my inspiration. I have always used my creativity throughout my life and have enjoyed a colourful journey exploring many mediums such as pastels, charcoal, arylics, inks, pencils and now resin.
I exhibited mostly in Echuca whilst living there for many years, but since returning to Melbourne I have been selling most works in homewares stores in Melbourne.
Colour plays an imortant role in my work. The intensity and choice of colour palette stimulates youthful enery, passion and a sense of fun. I want my art to arouse the senses and create an emotive response. Playful intereactions with pattern, form and imagery can emerge from colour in my large scale resin works. Its fun to see what other people can see in my art.
I am inspired by nature, the power of the ocean and by my love of travelling. My colours are bold, vibrant and rich with deep intensity evoking strong emotion. The pink palatte a favourite of mine, as it stimulates a light hearted playfulness and is just fun..... also my signature lipstick which is i wear everyday is a rich pink....
So i hope you enjoy my artwork and capture the mood so they can create a wonderful conversation for your walls.
